Life of Pi Shipwreck Diary
IB Language & Literature HL 1 – Lampinen
Due Tuesday(A)/Wednesday(B), October 4/5
The Premise
Oh no! You’re shipwrecked! How will you survive? Pi lived to tell his tale, and through his experience, he learned a great deal about himself, survival, and faith. Now it’s your turn. Create a character and make a shipwreck diary for him/her.
The Objective:
To demonstrate understanding and analysis of Life of Pi
To reflect about the ways in which Life of Pi could be relevant to you
To develop high-level creative and analytical thought
To create a multimedia product that will tell a story
The Product:
The product is a multimedia shipwreck diary that contains five entries (see below).
The entries should work together to tell the story of your survival.
Everything should be in one place, but the format is up to you (paper, video, web site, Storybird, Facebook fan page, etc. Note: if you do a FB page, do a fan page and not a profile…I won’t friend your castaway, but I’ll “like” your page! )
The Entries:
Introductory entry
One page (double spaced)
Written from your character’s perspective (does not have to be true), but in the style of Pi’s narration
Serves as introduction to your shipwreck experience (include details about your situation, philosophies, etc.)

Anthropomorphism illustration
One original illustration that captures your “inner beast.” Pi had Richard Parker…what about you?
Can be computer generated or done by hand (no Life of Pi illustrated version pictures, please). If you use the internet for images, you should change them enough to be able to call it your own work.
Label five traits that match up to your character; explain them (two traits can be physical; the rest should be metaphors)
Survival song
One song that you wrote while shipwrecked
Should capture the tone of what you were feeling while shipwrecked (Bored? Lonely? Desperate? Hopeful?)
Between six and ten lines long

Free choice
One artifact from your shipwreck experience that helps tell your story (must be NON-PRINT)
